Did you know that one hundred years ago, women did not have the right to vote? Only men could. But then, Emmeline Pankhurst helped change that. She went through I much to make sure that what she wanted to happen, happen. Shortly after, she passes away. But, they still made it allowed for women to vote. And because of that, she changed history and also the future.
For one of our projects in school, we were to pick a theme or person and write about it. I chose a person and my theme of that person was courage. I decided to choose Emmeline Pankhurst. So, today I’m going to tell you a little about her and why I think she’s courageous.
Emmeline Pankhurst was born on July 15, 1858. She lived until she was age 69 and died June 14, 1928. Emmeline was born in England. She was known for her greatness of when she gave women the right to vote. Women’s Social and Political Union, which used militant tactics to agitate for women’s suffrage. Parliament granted British women limited suffrage in 1918. She died shortly before women were given full voting rights. Although she is the reason that it happened. She took courage for herself and other women. Why did she take the time to do this you might ask? As Emmeline was getting older, she noticed that women were treated differently. She became motivated to change that. She died from an illness at age 69 but overall, she was a great woman that changed today.
